Q: Sidebar is getting a reputation for superb sports RPG games. What new projects does Sidebar Games have down the pipeline?
A: We can reveal we're currently working on a game called Sports Story. It wouldn't do us any good to reveal other games so far ahead.
Q: Is this a sequel to Golf Story?
A: We like to think of it as a separate game that features the same characters and takes place shortly after the events of Golf Story.
Q: Did you have to reduce sound quality due to cartidge space, and will you remove 25% of the game and offer it as a download to use a smaller cartridge?
A: Sports Story will be available for download from Nintendo eShop. If we put it on a cartridge, we'll just put the whole thing on there.
Q: Wouldn't it have been easier to just make “Tennis Story” instead?
A: Yes, but it's far too late for that now. It seemed a lot easier before we started doing it.
Q: Which Sidebar team is doing this game – the same people that did Golf Story or a new team?
A: This game is important to us so we've got our main team working on it.
Q: Isn’t it true that Sports Story was originally planned for a home release only?
A: Yes, it's true. But you can also take your Switch out with you.
Q: Will the switch controller’s infrared camera function be used for the home version of Sports Story?
A: We might check your heartrate after a close match play if we can figure out how to use it.
Q: Can you tell us about the new characters?
A: We're not talking about characters today. We're just here to talk about the game in a very general sense. We can't reveal anything you don't already know.
Q: What got left on the cutting room floor?
A: We're still working on the game so everything is presently on the cutting room table.
Q: Why didn’t you port Golf Story to other platforms? Did other platforms show any interest in the game?
A: The Nintendo Switch is the best and most powerful console, so we found it most suited to our needs.
Q: Which Nintendo games do you like, and which ones (if any) influenced any of Sidebar Games’s games?
A: We like Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Soccer, Mario Baseball and Mario Sports Mix. As far as influences... I'm not sure. I feel like we kind of go our own way.
Q: What do you think of the Virtual Boy?
A: It's a decent piece of technology and I'm excited to see what they do with it.
Q: Do you have any titles in development for it?
A: Not presently, the main team is currently concerned with Sports Story.
Q: Will you be using any trilinear mipmapping?
A: We don't have plans to use it at this time.
Q: What are the offical Joycon colors of sidebar games?
A: Based on the logo - blue on the left, nothing on the right.
Q: How many switches do you own?
A: 8
Q: How have you approached the tennis programming?
A: Start in the middle and work our way outwards. It's really just upside down golf if you think about it.
Q: Since there is no dedicated physics chip in the switch, is there a performance dip when you have so many sports in action at once?
A: Oh, I didn't think about that. We might have to reconsider how we've approached this game.
Q: Why are the characters very slightly taller in this game?
A: They're able to reach counters now which allows us to explore new gameplay possibilities.
Q: Final Question. Any message for your fans out there?
A: We hope you've enjoyed the Sports Story press kit. Please look forward to further press kits from us.
